The Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the FCT Administration has embarked on a clean-up exercise around the Nyanya interchange and market area.
The spokesman of the department, Meeme Felicia, in a statement, said the STDD Coordinator, Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, who inspected the exercise, assured that the department was committed to ensuring a safer and hygienic FCT for all residents.
The coordinator, who added that the exercise would be on-going, appealed to residents, particularly those living in the suburbs to desist from dumping refuse in drainages and by the roadsides.
City News learnt that the STDD team carried out desilting of drains around the interchange and roads leading into and out of Nyanya settlement.
Yamawo said clearing drains in satellite towns is in order to forestall flooding which could result in the destruction of people’s lives and property.
“Residents should avoid indiscriminate refuse disposal by bagging their waste properly and should also not cut the roads carelessly. Government property belongs to all of us, we should all take responsibility and manage it well,’’ he added.
