Still on Yar’adua University VC’s appointment

He hails from Funtua, born in 1964 and started his lecturing carrier in 1986 at ABU Zaria as an Assistant lecturer in the Department of Geology and became Professor in 2002 setting a record, as he was among the few who have become Professors even before the age of 40 years.
Also in his academic carrier, he has taught several Geochemistry and Geology courses at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. According to School of Post Graduate studies Review (2011) Professor Isa has supervised over 20 post graduate students and authored or co-authored over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He has served as external examiner for undergraduate and post graduate programmes to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and the Nasarawa State University, among others.
Professor Funtua, popularly known as I.I by the ABU community has attended several professional trainings in different parts of the World and in ABU he was the Director (Special Duties) Enforcement, Inspection and Authorization (NNRA); Director Centre for Energy Research and Training, and Deputy Vice Chancellor(Admin) 200-2012.
Looking at the New Vice Chancellor’s deep academic and administrative experience, he is expected to bring new developments to the University and is expected to improve on the infrastructural facilities of the five faculties and the 25 departments of the young University.
Professor Isa is expected to bring new hands that would boost the academic activities of the University, more especially in the areas of science and energy, environment and agriculture.
The New Vice Chancellor, as a researcher, his research interest is on the area of Environmental Radioactivity, pollution studies, uranium ore Recovery studies, Radiation Mapping, soil fertility mapping laboratory technical services and naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM), monitoring in oil and gas processing.
I believe that the new VC would use his national and international researching connections to improve on the University’s academic research and scholarship activities.
I also believe that his personal qualities of honesty and doing things based on merit are expected to help him to maintain sanity in the entire academic community of the Umar Musa Yar’adua University. Hence transparency and accountability would be sustained in the university.
Finally, we hope that the New Vice Chancellor would receive the needed support and cooperation from both academic and non academic staff, students the community and Katsina State Government.
We believe that it’s only with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders that the university would reach its highest level.
