I am disturbed by the arrest of a Nigerian, Nzemeka Ezims, by the police in Thailand over an alleged fraud and love scams as has become common with Nigerians outside the country. Ezims was said to have been arrested at a police checkpoint for alleged public fraud via loading false information online, illegally exporting goods to Africa and providing underground money-exchange service. I want to appeal to fellow Nigerians to please, conduct themselves honourably abroad and stop further tarnishing the country’s image. If you must go abroad, go for legitimate business, please.

Economic Advisory Council should be independent 

While I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for constituting an Economic Advisory Council made up of tested professionals and academics, I want to appeal that they be allowed to do their work independently. Nigeria at this point seriously needs such a team to redrive our economy. What thrills me is the pedigree of its members and the fact that they have private sector experience. I however want to believe that they must be independent and not dance to the tunes of the federal government because in the end, the goal should be to make the country and the people better, and not dance to the whims and caprices of government officials.

Terrorists must no take over West Africa

The growing influence of the terrorist group, the so-called Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) as evidenced by their activities, is giving me a great cause for concern as does the Bojko Haram group. Recall that members of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) did wreck much damage before their eventual defeat, making them to extend their evil acts to other parts of the world, including West Africa. The governments of West African countries should rise to the challenge now to check the group and its spread. Heads of governments should note that they would not remain in power for ever, and ignoring this call would be of great concern in future.

Please, allow me to thank the management of Air Peace for the kind gesture of the free airlift of Nigerians from South Africa in the wake of the xenophobic attacks in that country. Air Peace has demonstrated unmeasureable patriotism and empathy which should be emulated by every well-meaning and true Nigerian. It shows that the owner is not necessarily after profit making but making the lives of other people better. Thanks for your love and magnanimity, Air Peace.
