Stop multiple taxation on roads now, AUFCDN tells FG

President of the union, Muhammed Tahir, made the call during a courtesy visit to Media Trust, publisher of Daily Trust titles, Tuesday in Abuja.
Tahir lamented that their members go through difficult times anytime they are transporting agro products to different markets across the country as they pay multiple charges across all the states and local governments from the point of origin to the point of destination.
“What we want is an organised system of taxation where you pay tax at the point of origin and pay at the point of destination instead of the system where every state or local government you pass through somebody will stop you for tax. This is overstretching our patience as we run on losses,” Muhammed said.
He also urged the Inspector General of Police to enforce completely the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari on roadblocks and extortions of money from motorists along the major roads, adding that in many states in the southern part of the country, apart from Lagos and Ogun, collections were done at the various markets as points of destination.
“In fact in areas like Ogbomosho and Ibadan, we pay between N9,000 and N16,000 per truck. The situation is the same in Katsina-Ala, in Benue and Port Harcourt in Rivers and others,” he lamented.
“We have had series of meetings with relevant stakeholders after we went on industrial strike; and despite the directive of the president through the Inspector General of Police over illegal roadblocks and extortion of money at various check points, the situation continues unchecked in many southern states.
“If nothing is done, we will be forced to take any action within the law,” he also said.
