Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba on Tuesday warned the newly-elected Local Government Chairmen in the state against replacing retired civil servants’ names with those of their kinsmen on the councils’ payroll.
Ishaku gave the warning in Jalingo at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected Local Government Councils Chairmen in the state.
According to him, the replacement of the retirees’ names with their loved ones was an illegal act which over stretches the state finances.
He said non-payment of workers salaries and illegal deductions in the salaries would not be tolerated by his administration, stressing that anyone found guilty would be sanctioned.
The governor also advised the Chairmen to shun arrogance and exhibit high sense of responsibility while managing the affairs of their people .
Ishaku noted that the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) in the recent Councils Election was a testimony of “ our peoples appreciation and acceptance of the rescue Taraba agenda”.
He commended the State Independent Electoral Commission(SIEC) for conducting a peaceful ,credible , free and fair election.
“ No wonder, my colleagues from other parts of the country were calling to ask me the magic we used in achieving this success,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the Chairmen, Mr Stephen Agya, commended the state government for conducting the elections despite the current economic recession.
Agya said the Chairmen were ready to domesticate the programmes and policies of the Ishaku-led administration in their respective Council Areas.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) reports that 15 Chairmen took oath of office and allegiance administered by the state Chief Judge, Justice Josephine Tuktur .
However, no Chairman was sworn-in for Ibi Council Area as the SIEC had suspended the Saturday 25 election in the area due to violence. (NAN )
