Today’s meeting is part of on-going discussions initiated by the Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
President of JUSUN Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu told reporters that the union is open to meaningful talks that will lead to the suspension of the strike, but insisted that the strike won’t be suspended until a Federal High Court judgment which granted financial autonomy to the judicial sector is implemented.
The union also disagreed with comments allegedly made by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, saying that the federal courts are only on sympathy strike as the Federal Government is complying with the provision of Nigeria’s constitution.
A statement signed by JUSUN’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Kayode Igbarago said the statement was untrue, stressing that federal courts’ workers and state court workers are in harmony with regards to their demands.
Igbarago said, “federal workers in the judiciary are protesting the anomalies… JUSUN also states unequivocally that the judgment/order of the Federal High Court under reference was for the Accountant General of the Federation to deduct and pay directly to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for remittance to state judiciaries.”
