The truancy among secondary schools students in Anambra State is said to be on the increase posing source of concern to both teachers and parents.
Teachers said many students not only stay away from classes during school hours, but are seen loitering around the streets and markets places  in their uniforms, thereby painting both their schools and parents in a bad light.
The teachers called for an urgent step to be taken by all stakeholders to address the ugly trend in view of the dangers it poses to students in the nearest future.
The principal of Kenneth Dike Memorial Secondary School Awka, Lady Ifeoma Uzokwe said truancy among students has increased and efforts by the management to improve attendance have not been successful.
“The students often sneak out from the school through the dwarf and rope fence without the knowledge of the teachers,” she said.
She called on the government to come to their rescue by providing them with perimeter fence, more class rooms, and security personnel to help the management check the trend.
On her part, the rincipal, Ubaka Comprehensive Secondary School, Awka, Sister Pauline Alozie said truancy exposed the students to dangers and could ruin their future.
She called on teachers to be more committed to duty as character molders.
