The students’ union elections of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State conducted last week have been cancelled owing to irregularities.

The cancellation of the elections was announced yesterday in Uyo by the Dean of Students Affairs of the university, Dr. Aniekan Brown.

It was learnt that ballots and other election materials were destroyed at various polling units in the faculties of Arts, Education, Agriculture as well as Business Administration, while the students of the Faculty of Environmental Studies, were said to have chased the troublemakers with stones and other objects.

Some other students were said to be moving from one polling unit to another preventing voting.
