Falode, until his death was a student of SAE Institute, Dubai, UAE. He reportedly fell from his 17th floor apartment in Manchester Towers, Dubai Marina.
The denial was contained in a statement from the ministry of foreign affairs which read in parts: “The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to a story captioned “FG Accepts UAE Police Report on Nigeria Boy’s Death” which was published in a national daily of Friday May 16, 2014.
In the report, the paper said that in a telephone interview with Ambassador Ibrahim Auwalu, Nigeria’s envoy to the UAE, it obtained explanation to the effect that his mission had received the report of police on the death of Falode.
The ministry said there was no place in the report where the envoy was quoted as having accepted the contents of the police report and forensic investigations carried out on the remains of the deceased.
The statement said the ambassador provided highlights and the conclusion of the host police’s investigations into the alleged murder, adding that “it is in keeping with the letter and spirit of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). We must therefore hasten to say, that receiving a report does not amount to accepting the contents of the report as the caption of the story conveys.”
A report by the police in UAE said Falode, 19, was sitting on the railing of his balcony and swaying back and forth before taking the fatal plunge.
But his mother, Aisha Falode, addressed a press briefing where she accused the UAE police of a cover-up and called for proper investigation in the death of her son.
