Students beg Buhari over incessant strikes
According to him, only 10 percent of the students’ population have access to hostel accommodation while 90 percent live off campus.
Students of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Friday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to address issues responsible for incessant strike actions by university workers.
Students’ Union president of the university, Obinna Okorie, who made the appeal during the visit of a presidential panel to the university, also asked the president to provide adequate hostel accommodations to meet the growing population of students which he put at over 10, 000.
According to him, only 10 percent of the students’ population have access to hostel accommodation while 90 percent live off campus.
Responding, chairman of the visitation panel assured that issues affecting the wellbeing of the university community would be made known to the president for necessary actions.
He noted that the panel was given 60 days to complete its assignment and submit reports.
