Students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) have called for the inclusion of tricycles in campus transportation system to ease movement in and around the university.
Female students who rely on the university transport service are always left behind by their male counterparts in the struggle to get to and from school using the bus, it was gathered.
Some of the students who spoke on their suffering, said commercial tricycles popularly known as ‘Adaidaita Sahu’ could be more efficient in picking up or dropping female students in any location. Buses and taxicabs were mostly over loaded and uncomfortable, they observed.
A 200 level Sociology student, Binta Audu, said, “I will like the tricycles because they are more convenient and can convey one to ones door step.”
Another student who is in 300 level Mass Communication, Joseph Mark, also said commercial tricycles will certainly improve transport services and called on the university authorities to give them permits to convey students between the campuses.
A section of the university community is of the opinion that Adaidaita Sahu should be allowed in the campuses in order to ease the current unreliable means of transportation in the institution.
The students also implored the relevant stakeholders to adopt the global practice of alternative mode of transportation in the tertiary institutions and ease the hardship of students who come from a distant places.
