The event, the fifth in the series of memorial lecture on the late president Umaru Musa Yar’adua, was held at the Student’s Centre.
Theater, where dignitaries showered encomiums on the legacies, worthy of emulation, left behind by Yar’adua.
The former commissioner of agriculture, Musa Adamu Funtua, went down the memory lane to recall his political association with the late
Yar’adua, saying it began during his days at the Farmer’s Association during the SDP era.
He described Yar’adua as his role model, a man of impeccable integrity, dynamic and colourful politician, saying: “Late Yar’adua was the first serving president to accept that his electoral victory was not free and fair, and initiated electoral reforms under Justice Lawal Muhammad Uwais, an effort that led to a political revolution in the country: a revolution that is not synonymous to violence.
“There was a peaceful revolution, and ‘Yar’adua was a peaceful revolutionary,” said Malam Muhammad Yusuf of the economics department of the university, while presenting the lead paper titled: “Theoretical analyses of the relationship between good governance agenda and economic growth in Nigeria”, underscored the inevitable link between good governance and economic growth.
Yusuf said that economic stability is the most indispensable factor of economic growth, while good governance comprised traditions and institutions that determine how authority is exercised in a country.
He said that good governance can only be achieved through rule of law and democratic accountability.
The don advised Nigeria to acquire technologies and learn new ways of organising work to sustain economic growth and political stability.
Some of the dignitaries that attended the memorial lecture were former PTDF Boss, Engineer Muttaqa Rabe Darma and late Yar’adua’s brother, Mannir Yar’adua.
Some students, who spoke about the late president, said Yar’adua’s legacies can never be erased from the country’s history.
Another thing that attracted people’s attention was the Campaign of #BringBackourGirls that was conducted at the venue.
