The Zero Tolerance for Social Immoralities Initiative (ZETSI) Africa, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), amongst others, have empowered students to ensure that social vices, like prostitution and drug abuse are eradicated.

This was carried out in Abuja at the second edition of the ZETSI Africa project proposal on leadership training, with the theme: “Exploring the Tools of Leadership to Curb the Rising Tide of Social Vices Among Nigerian Students.”

In his keynote address, the Chairperson of ZETSI Africa, Amb. Razak Jeje, emphasized the need to enlighten students about the dangers of engaging in social vices, and most importantly training them to become leaders of society.

Jeje said, “ZETSI Africa has, overtime, been championing the cause of eradicating social vices in our society. As an organization, we condemn every vice particularly, corruption, which has eaten deep down the system and it’s affecting optima operation of every sector in the country.

“Cultism and Drug abuse have also cut short the lives of promising youths and rendered many youths mentally unstable.

“Examination malpractice and prostitution are also one of such social vices that must be decisively eradicated in the society to ensure a sustainable future for all, especially common among our youths of today, hence it’s high time we fight it collectively.

“This leadership training will provide our participants with valuable insights and empowering them with essential leadership skills through resource persons, from EFCC, NDLEA, JAMB, Nigerian Police Force, as well as experts, and youth leaders across the country.

“Following the enriching training, we have planned a thought-provoking lecture series and award presentation to the few selected dignitaries who have been supporting our noble cause at ZETSI Africa.”

The Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the EFCC, Aisha Mohammed, said the Commission’s dream is to see that youths become better people in society.

She emphasized on the need for youths to put heads together in bringing about national development.

According to her, “Our message is for all of them. We always say this, my boss the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede always says this, Nigeria is the only country we have, no one is going to come fix it for us, we have to come together and fix Nigeria and that’s the message to the youths.

“They are the future of the country, they have to come together now. Now is the time for them to salvage Nigeria. They should come and let’s put heads together to fight corruption.”

On his part, a Communications and Development Consultant, Mr. Shakir Akorede, highlighted the importance of harnessing the potentials of Nigeria’s young demography.

He said, “Youths and students are the largest demography in Nigeria. This demography is very important and we have to look into developing that demography. This program will go a long way in sensitizing young people into becoming better youths and leaders tomorrow.”

Other resource persons present at the event were representatives from JAMB, the Nigerian Police Force, as well as experts, and youth leaders across the country.
