The Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall of the institution was filled to the brim with students, lecturers, officials of the institution and other eminent personalities for the event.
Some students at the occasion said when Mimiko took over the mantle of leadership of the university on January 4, 2010, the university was faced with leadership problems, acute infrastructure challenge, low staff morale, academic instability and dwindling integrity of the university’s academic programmes.
But four years after, all these problems became things of the past. They commended him for building the Senate building, a four-wing five storey building, the vice-chancellor’s lodge,  university guest house, ultra-modern gymnasium, world-class sports centre, university health centre, u-block building, computer resource centre, Nelson Mandela Lecture Theatre, Umaru Yar’adua Lecture Theatre, Obafemi Awolowo Lecture Theatre, and the 30-classroom quadrangle which houses about 4,000 students.
The SUG President of the institution Ikudehinbe Segun said the radical policies introduced by the vice-chancellor have greatly helped in developing the institution.
In his remark, Professor Mimiko thanked the students for their support and co-operation to him in the last five years of his administration.
He promised to continue rendering selfless services to the nation, saying his book which is about to be published will be dedicated to the students of the institution.
