Speaking during the ceremony, the Senior Programme Officer of the society, Ahmed Isa Mohammed, said the aim of the book was to equip students and members of the society on the basic issues related to malaria with a view of fighting the disease.

Mohammed said the handbook titled, End Malaria-Blue Ribbon Campaign, is also aimed at alerting members of the public on the rate at which malaria kills, women and children as well as the best ways to prevent it.

 He said the book contains reasons why malaria is dangerous, who are at most risk of malaria, how it was transmitted, life cycle of malaria- carrying mosquitoes and the common symptoms of the disease as well as best preventive measures.

He said SLAM is a network of students from countries at risk of malaria with those in malaria- free countries to end malaria through experience sharing and networking. He said the students group   is also into advocacy and educating of school children who do not have the opportunity of attending school.
