Students across the country have called on the Federal Government to expand digital learning programmes in tertiary institutions, particularly Colleges of Education.
They noted that the EDON Electronic Education Initiative has supported the growth of digital learning tools and modern teaching methods in higher institutions.
Speaking in Abuja, Comrade Kur Isaac Ushahemba, National President of the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), said the initiative has provided universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education with technology that enhances teaching, learning and classroom interaction.
“Our Colleges are witnessing a transformation where technology now shapes how lecturers teach and how students learn, collaborate and engage within and beyond the classroom environment,” he said.
NANCES urged the Federal Ministry of Education, TETFund, the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) to support the expansion and institutionalisation of the EDON 98-inch QR Interactive Board and the EDON 3D Animation Simulation software in all Colleges of Education nationwide.
According to the association, wider adoption of the tools would improve digital literacy among teachers-in-training, strengthen ICT-enabled learning, enhance classroom technology use, and boost students’ global competitiveness.
Ushahemba added that NANCES remains committed to advocating for stronger teacher education and improved learning standards in the country.
The students commended President Bola Tinubu for increased attention to teacher training institutions, as well as TETFund, the NCCE under Prof. Paulinus Chijioke, and the Committee of Provosts for efforts aimed at improving academic and infrastructural development in Colleges of Education.
