The Entrepreneurship Unit of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has displayed products and services made by the students to commemorate the World Entrepreneurship Day (WED).
Handcraft products, paintings, detergents, fashion designs were displayed at the event. Speaking at the event, the coordinator of skills in the centre, Mr. John Kwagga, said the exhibition was organized so that different skill facilitators and students in the Entrepreneurship Development Programme of the university can showcase and demonstrate their latest products, services and examine recent market trends and opportunities.
He urged the students to acquire entrepreneurial skills in order to help solve the problem of unemployment in the society.
A student, Judith Onwuelo, who specializes in Ankara Bags and Shoes, said having a skill makes her less dependent and she encouraged her colleagues to do same as the skill they acquire will help them in the future when “the paper certificate fails to get them a job.” Agada Barnabas, a photographer, said he acquired the skill out of his passion to make a difference in photography.
The Facilitator for Painting and Decoration in the Unit, Harrison Chinweike Umeadi, said the acute unemployment problem bedeviling the country would be solved through the acquisition of skills by young Nigerians.
He advised the government to encourage small businesses and entrepreneurs because they have the capacity to produce 90 per cent of what the nation consumes.
