Students thrive, win prizes at Lagos spelling bee

Telecommunication firm, MTN held a spelling bee competition for private schools in Lagos State where many students displayed their talents.

The programme which was sponsored by MTN mPulse had the intra-school phase where students compete within a school. At the Apata Memorial High School in Isolo area, officials said the competitors who were mostly kids were made to spell words that adult could find difficult without aid.

“The children were so passionate about winning that you could see their frustration when they couldn’t spell some words,” a statement from the programme handlers noted.

The other contestants came together to support and encourage a JSS2 student who couldn’t make it to the final during the Apata school contest.

The Manager, Sponsorship and Promotions, MTN Nigeria, Njide Ken-Odogwu, by way of showing  support then pulled the student in for a hug. “The little queen perked up after that,” it stated.

After 8 heart-clutching rounds, the winners were announced amidst applause at the school. Three girls bounced off the stage with the top three prizes. Adebayo Precious emerged the overall winner, the first runner-up was Ifejiofor Tochukwu while the 2nd Runner-up, was Olalekan Toyosi.

At the end, the students flooded the mPulse zone and tried their hands at every game and puzzle!
