Nigerian students have been urged to take part in the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.
The Executive Director, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Reverend David Ugolor, made the call at an event tagged, “Breaking from the norm.’’ He said that everywhere in the world, the onus is on students to engage the politicians on the proper implementation of budgets. The event was organised by the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UniBen).
Ugolor said that students had the potential to cause positive changes in the polity, adding that it was because of that reason that his non-governmental organisation decided to collaborate with them in the fight against corruption in the country.
“We can’t afford to be silent in the face of the worrisome level of corruption in our country. We call on students to align with us to set Nigeria free from all sorts of corrupt practices. In your little way, please join the anti-corruption project,” he said.
The convener and secretary of the Students Union Government, Emmanuel Ndueche, said the aim of the event was to improve the standard of living of students, even after graduation.  
The event also saw the presentation of awards to the winners of the William Obong Memorial Essay Competition, organised by the office of the secretary-general of the Student Union Government, University Of Benin.
