Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Tagelsir Mohagoub Ali, said this on Wednesday night in Abuja during the celebration of its national day.
The government of Sudan, according to the envoy, has also taken steps towards peace and stability in the country adopting dialogue as a means of solving national differences.
He said this culminated into the Peace Agreement in 2005 that led to the emergence of a new state in South Sudan in July, 2011 and praised the leaders of both sides for their wisdom to put an end to the civil war that had lingered for 50 years.
Ali also said that the biggest Nigerian community outside the country is in Sudan and have set a good example of mutual co-existence in the continent.
He extended his nation’s gratitude to the Nigeria for launching the key peace platform for Sudan by hosting the initial Abuja talks for the North-South peace initiative and subsequently Darfur talks which paved the way for the final settlement of peace in the region.
The ambassador called for exploration of mutual potential opportunities in both countries through the forthcoming Sudan-Nigeria Bi-national Joint Commission, which will be held in Khartoum next month after being dormant for almost 12 years.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian government, Director in Charge of North and Horn of Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jerry Hassan, affirmed the cordial relations between both countries especially with the high number of official visits from both sides.
