In a telephone interview with Daily Trust, State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ladan confirmed the attack. He said “Nine people were killed including the suicide bomber. There are also many injured people but I am in the hospital now and will give you their numbers later”
According to Ladan, “we had mounted a road block manned by security personnel and they prevented the suicide bomber from reaching his target. He was stopped by our men but he refused [to stop] and hit a security gate. The bomb exploded, killing the bomber instantly.”
Bauchi State Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar told Daily Trust that 35 people were injured and have been taken them to the Hospital. Many of the injured people were taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi.
An eye witnesses told Daily Trust that the suicide bomber refused to stop and accelerated till he rammed the security gate of the church. He said a fire followed the explosion and the force of the blast caused part of the church building to collapse on worshipers.
