Scores were feared dead yesterday after suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked three targets at Tudun Natsira and one at Banakwai all in Ajilari area of Gommari in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital killing scores.
Malam Musa, a generator repairer in Tudun Natsira, said 10 of his friends died in the attacks. “I returned from my workshop around 8pm and as usual, I passed through our joint where we sit and chat. My friends wanted me to wait so that we can chat but I told them I must go home and pick something. Before I got to my house, I heard a blast far ahead. About 2 minutes later, there was another blast at our joint. I rushed back to check only to discover that my friends that I left there were all dead, except one. I am here with him. We are taking him to hospital. He is now unconscious because he lost a lot of blood.”
Another resident said the first bomb went off near his house. “I was in my room when I heard the blast. I rushed to lock the door of my house when I saw human parts on my door step,” he said.
The blast at Banakwai was also said to have been carried out by a suicide bomber that ran into the mix of youths that were chatting after the evening prayer killing scores.
