The President of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Muhammad Sulaiman, has called for a concerted effort in using art for the promotion and preservation of cultural values in the country.

Sulaiman made this known in his acceptance speech after the inauguration of the 11th National Executives in Abuja.

He said during his tenure, the national executive will ensure a robust relationship with policymakers including the Senate and House Committee heads, Diplomatic Community, heads of government agencies and parastatals, art patrons as a means to collectively surmount obstacles which he said serve as a broader strategy for success.

He described unity and oneness of purpose among members of the society as the ultimate recipe for success, pleading for active membership and participation to ensure a collective push towards achieving set goals and objectives.

He said, “We shall have to draw upon that spirit which has lifted this profession and humankind to the heights of hope in times of desolation by building the conviction that whilst each of us pursues our personal dreams, we can still find greater fulfilment and purpose in cohesion and togetherness as one family.”

He commended the electoral committee for their commitment to making the electoral process possible.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, Mr Oliver Enwonwu and Mr Ebeten William Ivara received the distinguished service award while the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof Aliyu Shugaba, was among four people that received the society’s honorary fellowship.
