Roads are a crucial aspect of every society and have a significant impact on various aspects of human life.

Yet, in plain sight is a small stretch of road in Suleja, Niger State, not more than 200 metres, that has become a thorn in the flesh and a nightmare to all who traverse on it.

The road, which adjoins Suleiman Barau Road between the former NEPA Roundabout and the entrance to the the recently refurbished general hospital, plays host to banks, including Access and First City Monument, Rahama Schools, FRSC, a magistrates’ court, Chicken Republic and many retail shops.

Traversing this road involves meandering through several potholes that have proved to be a threat to vehicles.

Though Senator Sani Musa (313) has drawn commendation for influencing the rehabilitation of a similar road and other projects in the town, many wonder why this particular road has been abandoned and allowed to continue to deteriorate.

Indeed, many roads around the same area have been rehabilitated and even provided with solar street lights, but this particular road has been neglected as if it’s a pariah and an albatross.

The Suleja LGA, known for its dogged daily revenue collection, has not seen it important to use a fraction of such funds to live up to their responsibilities, which include the provision and maintenance of amenities such as roads.

Improved road infrastructure promotes economic development, enhances accessibility and connectivity, provides employment opportunities, improves transportation safety and has positive environmental impacts.

Therefore, it is essential for those in authority to do the needful by hastily coming to rescue Suleja residents by rehabilitating or even reconstructing this important road.
