The Coalition of Northern Youth Imams Forum has strongly criticised Ulama and Imams who, they claim, have misinterpreted the Sokoto State law reform concerning the Sultanate Council, alleging it disrupts Nigeria’s unity, peace, and harmony.

Sheikh Abdulqadir Imam Funtua, Chairman of the coalition, made this condemnation during a two-day workshop aimed at educating Imams on the importance of verifying information before making pronouncements.

Funtua stressed that Islamic teachings emphasise the avoidance of spreading rumours, premature adjudication, or drawing conclusions without proper verification.

 “The Sokoto State government, as far as we understand, is not opposed to the Sultanate Council; in fact, they have been supportive, recognising the Sultan as the leader of all Muslims,” Sheikh Funtua stated.

National Secretary, Imam Mubarak Aliyu, in presenting the workshop’s resolutions and recommendations, clarified, “The issue concerning the Sultanate Council does not involve the removal of the Sultan, contrary to some claims. The state government has clarified this.

“We urge Imams and Ulama to uphold truthfulness after verifying all matters, to foster peace in the country,” Imam Aliyu concluded.
