Women and girls’ rights advocates yesterday urged government to create conducive environment and implement deliberate policies to ensure that girls go to school.
Speaking at the Daily Trust Women’s Summit  in Abuja yesterday, several speakers noted that education and empowerment were vital for development and crucial to the potentials of women and girls.
Wife of the senate president and founder of Wellbeing Foundation, Mrs Toyin Bukola Saraki who moderated the technical session, emphasized that outcomes must be linked to social determinants to shape development, saying a conducive environment was quiet necessary if the girl child must strive.
 “Educating our girls will unleash our unlimited potentials and transform our communities, and another key theme is gender disparity, women are at the front lines to finding solutions to poverty and crisis,” she said.
Co-founder of AACE Foods and founder, LEAP Africa, Mrs Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, called on women to embrace agriculture as their new oil to address issues of poverty and empowerment.
According to her women in agriculture lose funds to middle men because they have relegated those business opportunities to persons who they feel are better at handling them who are the men.
Professor Hauwa Imam of the University of Abuja called for penalties against parents who refuse to send their female children to school.
