Some people buy low-profile tires because they like the look. But from a driving point of view, the primary reason for doing so is improved handling at speed. Because they are wider, low-profile tires provide better grip and responsiveness at corners. The bigger rims that go with them also allow for bigger brakes. This is often the case with sport tuned car or touring cars meant for travel.

Of course, there is a down side to using low profile tyres which is you will certainly experience a harsher ride than with traditional tyres and will feel all of the irregularities in the road surface and both the sidewalls and the rims are more likely to suffer damage. But that is often minimized by adding insulator so as to reduce road noise and adding sport shocks so that tremor doesn’t transmit to the steering. That is why a lot of us have come to love German cars because their auto makers had common sense. I also learn when they pop high speed they are a lot safer than the regular tyres. They often run flat just like a deflated tyre.
