Last season, it was Kano Pillars who stopped Sunshine from winning the title when they handed the Akure side a 1-0 defeat in their final match at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
The victory over Sunshine did not hand Pillars the continental ticket they needed but it was enough to hand the NPL title to Dolphins who were running neck to neck with Sunshine Stars.
Consequently, many football fans believe this is pay-back time as they say Sunshine Stars would also like to take back its own pound of the flesh.
However, Gabriel in a chat with Feverpitch said there is no reason for their opponents to go out of their way to stop his side because what happened in Kano was what Pillars could not avoid.
He explained that Pillars needed victory in the match to get a continental ticket and Sunshine also wanted to win the league so it was not possible for Pillars to do otherwise.
Gabriel said even if Sunshine is bearing any grudge against his team, they will go to Ijebu-Ode and get the result they need to win the league title.
“Sunshine have no reason to be angry with Pillars. What happened in Kano last season was inevitable. We needed the match as much as they did.
“We were in contention for a continental ticket so there was nothing we could do. However, even if they feel otherwise, I do not see Sunshine stopping us from achieving our target of winning the league.
“Whether some of us will be there on the final day or not, Pillars will still beat Sunshine to lift the trophy.”
