While Kaduna united were forced to a 1-1 draw by InterClub of Angola at the Kaduna Township Stadium, Sunshine Stars struggled to beat their opponents Motema Pembe 2-0 at the Ijebu-Ode Township Stadium.

Kaduna United’s Ali Adamu put the home side in the lead early in the second half but a momentary loss of concentration in added time provided the much needed opportunity for the visitors to level scores.

Gbenga Ogunbote’s Sunshine Stars failed to shine in the first half as they could not find a way through the cemented defence of the Congolese side.

In the second half, the home team rallied to score two goals but that was after so many missed chances.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Fever Pitch after the match, coach Ogunbote thanked God for the victory but said the strikers did not live up to expectations.

“I am happy that we won but I am not completely satisfied with the performance of my strikers. We missed too many clear chances.

“The most important thing is that the victory is a morale booster as it will give us the confidence to face our other group opponents. We are not going to rest on our oars”, he assured.
