Sources at the hospital said the governor was flown into Abuja airport from Yola, Adamawa State, where he was earlier taken to after the aircraft he was flying himself crashed near the NNPC depot, close to the Yola airport.

 

President Goodluck Jonathan, who was among the first visitors to the hospital, was briefed by the Chief Medical Director Prof. Bello Bala Shehu on the governor’s state of health.

Jonathan, who said that Suntai was in a stable condition, thanked God for sparing the life of the governor and urged the hospital authorities to give the governor adequate care for quick recovery.

Meanwhile, the medical director also confirmed that the governor was in a stable condition adding that they were attending to first degree injury sustained by the governor in the crash.

Shehu also said that the injury would not necessitate them to carry out any major operation on the governor. “There is no need to do any operation on him. He is very stable. Given what happened, we are actually satisfied with the situation at the moment,” he stated

However, Weekly Trust heard that Suntai, who was involved in a plane crash on Thursday, came in a State House Medical Centre Ambulance plate number: SH 576 and bandaged from head to toe.

He had about seven other vehicles in the entourage. He was on life support gadgets with oxygen mask.

Men of the State Security Service barred journalists from all entrances leading to the ICU.

An SSS official barked at journalists: “If you record anything or take a shot, I will spoil your leg.”

Earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Umar M. Hassan told Weekly Trust on phone that the governor’s condition was stabilized when he was flown out from the Yola international airport at about 1: 00pm yesterday afternoon.

The governor, it was also learnt, may be taken to Germany for medical attention.

He said the Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako personally evacuated Suntai and the three other victims to Specialist Hospital Yola, where the Aide de Camp (ADC) to the Governor Dasat Iliya is still lying unconscious in a hospital bed.

Hassan who could not explain whether the governor will receive surgery in Germany said the ADC apart from being in a coma has a leg fracture.

He added that the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Timo Dangana, has two fractures on both legs, while the Chief Detail to the governor, Joel Dan has fractured his arm.

He said the two are responding to treatment at the Specialist Hospital Yola but may be transferred to Jalingo once the ADC regains consciousness.
