The Super Eagles on Saturday clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi in a tense 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Nigeria faced an early setback when star striker Victor Osimhen limped off with an injury, forcing coach Eric Chelle to reorganize his attack.

Despite dominating possession, the Eagles struggled to break down Rwanda’s resolute defence in the first half, squandering several chances.

The breakthrough came in the 51st minute when Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Tolu Arokodare finished off a well-worked move to give Nigeria the lead.

The goal proved decisive as the Eagles held their composure at the back, denying Rwanda any late opportunities and sealing three crucial points to boost their qualification campaign.

Nigeria will next take on South Africa in another key World Cup qualifying fixture on Tuesday.
