Nigeria’s Super Eagles are targeting victory in today’s international friendly against Poland’s White-Reds after the arrival of defender Calvin Bassey boosted the team’s preparations in Warsaw.
Head Coach Eric Chelle expressed confidence in his squad as the Fulham defender joined the team’s camp at the Presidential Hotel on Tuesday, increasing the number of players in camp to 20. Germany-based forward Philip Otele, who impressed during the Unity Cup triumph in London, was also expected to arrive later in the day.
Bassey’s inclusion provides Chelle with more defensive options, with the versatile defender capable of partnering Semi Ajayi in central defence. Igoh Ogbu and Emmanuel Fernandez are also available as Nigeria seeks to maintain its recent positive momentum.
“Now, we have a team and we are preparing to go out there and win. Winning is the mentality that we are trying to create in the team, in the players. We will go for a win on Wednesday,” Chelle declared.
In goal, Maduka Okoye has impressed since arriving in camp, while Arthur Okonkwo and Francis Uzoho offer additional competition. The midfield boasts experienced names such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, alongside Tochukwu Nnadi and young prospect Abdullahi Bewene.
Nigeria’s attack features an exciting blend of experience and firepower, including Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Akor Adams, Rafiu Durosinmi, Paul Onuachu and Otele. Onuachu received further motivation after learning he had won the Turkish Super Lig Goal of the Season award.
Like Nigeria, Poland is expected to field a youthful side after handing opportunities to several debutants in recent matches. Coach Jan Urban will likely look to winger Jakub Kamiński and other emerging talents to challenge the Eagles.
The match will kick off at 8:45 p.m. local time (7:45 p.m. Nigerian time) at Warsaw’s 58,000-capacity PGE Narodowy Stadium.
