Heritage Auctions managed the sale and called it the “most important comic book ever published.” It cost only 10 cents when it came out 86 years ago and introduced Superman to the world.

Barry Sandoval from Heritage Auctions said, “Without this comic, there might not have been a Golden Age of comics. Even though it’s really old, it’s still in good shape, with bright colours and just a bit of wear at the top. There are only two other copies in better shape, and only 100 out of the 200,000 copies printed still exist.”
The story, written by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, tells how Superman came from another planet and started his life on Earth, and it introduces his girlfriend, Lois Lane.
