The Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program, known as ‘SURE-P, is a scheme established by the Federal Government of Nigeria during the Jonathan Administration, to re-invest the Federal Government savings from fuel subsidy removal on critical infrastructure projects and social safety net programmes, with direct impact on the citizens of Nigeria. SURE-P was established on January 2012, when the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the removal of subsidy on Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS). The scheme is one of the pivots of Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government.

This programme, according to Nwosu and Ugwuerua (2014). is a making of the Nigerian national government, aimed at ensuring that part of its savings from fuel subsidy removal or reduction is applied to mitigate the spate of youth unemployment in the country through the re-investment of the subsidy funds.

Jigawa State Is one among the poorest states where people engage themselves in farming system. But In our dear state with its huge number of  needy people that need the program to be lifted out of  poverty challenges like other states, Jigawa people are unfortunately left in darkness, not witnessing the programme on the ground but on paper.

As the present regime  under Muhammad Badaru Abubakar intended to come up or  create another programme –  the so-called J-power that would reduce unemployment menace, there is a need to plan before implementation to avoid hearsay as the Sure-p program failed to be enjoyed by the people of the state.

The ertwhile Governor of Jigawa  State, Sule Lamido, deserves commendation for panel beating the New World to shoulder with other states, not minding the fact that he failed to uplift the people of Jigawa State with Sure-P Programme to reduce unemployment menace.

With the aforementioned,  I hope Governor Badaru Abubakar would plan the J-power programme well to avoid public outcry.
