The Director, Graduate Internship Scheme, Mr Peter M. Parka, disclosed this at the orientation and training organised for interns and firms’ representatives in Kebbi.
He explained that graduates will be attached to viable organisations for training in various skills.
Represented by Alhaji Abubakar Jega, the director said the scheme provides opportunity to graduates to acquire skills in order to improve their employability.
“This is the first time in the history of our country that this kind of scheme is being given serious attention by government. The federal government considers it as a tool for addressing the challenges of graduate unemployment.
He also stated that government cannot be the main employer of labour, rather it will create enabling environment that would stimulate business opportunities.
He appealed to large corporations that fall within the core sectors to key into the gesture and show commitment by allowing young graduates to demonstrate their talent.
