An Abuja magistrate’s court has remanded a retiree, Godwin Aikpokpo, in a correctional facility for failure to produce the accused person he stood surety for.

The prosecutor, Barr K. Ebong, told the court that the defendant on June, 7 2021, willfully stood as surety to secure police administration bail for one Mercy Odunlade who was being investigated for cheating and breach of trust meted against one Hassan Idris at the Bwari police station. 

He said since the defendant failed to produce her to the police whenever her attention was needed despite several opportunities given to him to do so.

The Magistrate, Mohammed Abba, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5,000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to October 20.
