The Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria has inducted 240 newly licensed and registered quantity surveyors.

Speaking at the 2021 Annual Assembly of Registered Quantity  Surveyors and the induction of the newly registered members in Abuja Wednesday, National President, QSRBN, Murtala Aliyu, called on quantity surveyors to take advantage of the opportunities available in the agricultural and mining sectors of the economy as a viable diversification strategy.

“The economy generally is moving towards agriculture and mining, when you look at the contribution of the two sectors to our GDP, you’ll find out it’s better compared to, maybe, construction and real estate put together.

“So, it’s important we delve into the other aspect of the economy to offer our expertise.

“There are two ways to give out our expertise: one as quantity surveyors, what kind of role can we play in agriculture or development of agricultural infrastructure and what role can we play in mining both surface and subsurface.

“Two, as entrepreneurs also, can we invest in agriculture? Can we invest in mining? These are the challenges we want to throw to our colleagues,” he said.

Aliyu said the board targeted the involvement of more young surveyors and the application of artificial intelligence and automation “to ensure that it’s rooted in the profession.

“We want to benchmark standards along with the international requirements and ensure that we don’t go below.”

Justice Ishaq Bello, a retired  Chief  Judge of the FCT High Court,  who administered the induction oath on the new inductees, charged them to be ethical in the conduct of their professional activities and behaviour.

He said the general expectations of professional quantity surveyors must be strictly adhered to at all times.

The registrar of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, Mr Ifeanyi Uzonwanne, charged the new surveyors to maintain professional integrity noting that “if you destroy integrity, you have destroyed it all.”
