The Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors has honoured some veteran surveyors for their contributions to the profession and the development of the institute at both state and national levels.

Speaking at the institute’s 2016 annual dinner and award night in Kano, the state chairman of the association, Surveyor Aminu Muhammad Bashir, said the honour was aimed at encouraging other surveyors to put in their best in moving the institute to greater heights.

“The veterans we have honoured today have contributed a lot to the development of the institute at both state and national levels. They deserve more than this little honour conferred on them by the state chapter of the institute. However, this little gesture would serve as appreciation to their contributions to the institute,” he said.

Commenting on the activities of the institute, the chairman identified nonparticipation of members in the activities of the institute and lack of permanent secretariat among the challenges affecting the association in the state.

However, he said the institute had embarked on training of its members through special tutorials to attain professionalism in the discharge of their duties, adding that “we are also making effort to convince government to incorporate surveyors in the execution of capital projects.”

In her remarks, the National President of the Institute, Mrs. Mercy T. Iyortyer commended the state chapter for queuing  into all professional policies.

She charged members of the institute to vote wisely during the forthcoming election of the institute in November, saying “you should only vote for visionary leaders that will promote unity among us. Kano is very important to the national body of the institute.”

Some of the members and elders honored include, the National President of the Institute Mrs. Mercy T. Iyortyer, Alhaji Abdulkadir M. Kawu (Madakin Lapai), Alhaji Isah Mohammed Borodo, Mr. Sunny Evbogame and Alhaji M. B. Abubakar.
