Surveyors urge el-Rufa’i to clear land encumbrances

Branch chairman Babatunde Salawu, while addressing a press conference in Kaduna stressed the need for a system of land administration that will make for sustainable development in the state.
“We’re aware that government has been making efforts to improve land administration but more needs to be done.
“It’s necessary to modify some aspects of land administration to make it people oriented while serving the purpose of government as land administration has most times been used as a political tool rather than a tool for governance.
“Urban planning and urban rural infrastructural development and property taxation are anchored on land administration so we expect the government to place more emphasis in pursuing reforms in the area of land title and title database programme by removing unnecessary bottlenecks in the way of title processing and private property transactions,” he said.
He advised that transaction cost should be reviewed downwards to encourage formal documentation of land transactions thereby ensuring land owners maximise the potential of land ownership.
He assured the incoming governor of the institutes, preparedness to partner with the incoming government with a view to making land administration an efficient, revenue generating and people-oriented government business.
