The President Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Mr. Akinloye Oyegbola, has urged surveyors to key into the policies and programmes of the present administration and take their rightful place in the scheme of things.

The president, represented by the National Chairman of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) of the institution, Alhaji Abubakar Halilu, called for the unity of purpose among surveyors in the country.

He stated this at a two-day workshop organised by the NIS under its Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) for the North Central Zone.

The training brought together surveyors from the six states in the North Central and the FCT, aimed at educating surveyors on the techniques of drone technology application in surveying  and mapping, local content of space technology and cartographic design  techniques.

The Managing Director of Goetopo Survey, Owerri in Imo State, Clement Nwabichie, while delivering a lecture titled: “The Politics of Location and Challenges of Technology” enjoined surveyors to look at the current position of the profession and how to advance it in the next 25 years.

Nwabichie said surveyors must leave their comfort zones for better opportunities and play a key role in national development.

The theme of the workshop was: “Space Technology Application: Retracing our Roots.”
