The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) says its members must be included in all urban transformation initiative by state governments across the country.

Speaking during a working visit to Niger State, NIS national president, Surveyor Oyegbola Akinloye Olufemi said every urbanization plan by governments at all tiers was bound to fail if surveyors were not carried along from conception to implementation stages.

The national president said the body and its members were not accorded recognition by most governments in the past as bedrocks of all meaningful planning,  and development therefore resulting in haphazard arrangement and consequent chaotic activities.

The Commissioner for Land, Malam Haliru Jikantoro, called for broadening of the scope of training for surveyors in the nation’s institutions so as to incorporate courses in digital and geoinformation technology, satellite technology and environment, apart from the traditional ones because of the challenges posed by the digital world.
