The Nasarawa State Police Command has busted a kidnappers’ hideout, arrested a suspect and recovered firearms in Gidan Akuya Village, Keana Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lafia.

He said the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence gathered by the command.

Nansel explained that the suspect, identified as Jibril Yunusa, 43, attempted to flee after sighting the operatives but was pursued and arrested.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Nasarawa State Command, successfully busted the hideout of a suspected notorious kidnapper at Gidan Akuya Village in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

“Upon sighting the operatives, the criminal attempted to flee the scene but was immediately pursued by the police. During the operation, one suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa, 43, was arrested,” he said.

The police spokesman added that one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine and one locally fabricated rifle were recovered from the hideout.

According to him, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in several kidnapping operations within the Keana and Awe axis of the state and provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

Nansel said the State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down and arrest other members of the gang who fled the scene.

He added that the commissioner commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

The police boss also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
