The audience yesterday at an Ejigbo, Lagos, chief magistrate’s court burst into laughter as the prosecutor described how a 47-year-old man in police cell, Chijioke Okeiyi, allegedly tore the uniform of a policewoman and fondled her breast.
City News learnt that the police at the Isheri-Oshun division, Lagos, had detained Okeiyi in their cell after he had been arrested for allegedly fighting with a neighbour.
The policewoman, who was identified as Inspector Adefoluke, was understood to have responded to shouts in the cell where Okeiyi was being detained with other suspects.
The prosecutor, Inspector Njoku John, told the court that the female Inspector was, however, shocked when the suspect held on to her firmly at the cell door, grabbed her breasts and tore her uniform. She then called for help.
Angered by the action of the suspect, the Divisional Police Officer ordered that Okeiyi should be charged to court with assault occasioning harm.
He was consequently arraigned in court yesterday.
The presiding magistrate, Mr L.K.J. Layeni, however, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
