The police in Plateau State, on Tuesday morning, arrested a suspected car thief, Audu Yusuf, in Bukuru town in Jos South LGA.

The suspect was arrested alongside a painter, Isma’il Alhasan, over allegedly conspiring with the main suspect to change the colour of the stolen vehicle.

Parading the suspect, the spokesperson of the police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, said, “On Tuesday midnight, the state police command received information from Abuja that a gold coloured Toyota Sienna with Registration Number: KUJ610CY, and Chassis Number: 5TDZK23C47S036168, was reported stolen in Abuja.

“The vehicle which belongs to one Mr Okoro, was stolen on 09/07/2024 at about 01:30am, when some hoodlums armed with weapons invaded his residence at Dutsen Alhaji and in the process inflicted grievous wounds on the owner of the house.

“During the attack, the hoodlums made away with the following items alongside the vehicle: one 65-inch Hisense flat screen TV, one HP laptop, six android phones, two small phones, one wallet containing five ATM cards, jewelry and one Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) ID card.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olugbemiga Emmanuel Adesina, directed the DPO of Bukuru to mobilise his men to the scene where the vehicle was tracked. Consequent upon the swift intervention, the vehicle was recovered and the following suspects were arrested, one Audu Yusuf, who was transporting the vehicle from Abuja to Jos; and Ismail Alhassan, a painter who was to receive the vehicle here in Jos for repainting.”

Yusuf, who was arrested with the car, said, “I was given the vehicle by a good friend who asked me to drive it to Jos to pay me. On getting to Bukuru, the car stopped, and while trying to repair it, police officers arrived and arrested me and Ismail who I was to hand over the vehicle to.”
