Residents of Mandate 1, Warah area in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have apprehended a suspected thief, who they alleged had been terrorising the area.
The suspect, Tobi Adebayo, 17, was caught red-handed in the early hours of Sunday with window burglary proofs he allegedly stole from a welder’s workshop.
He was seriously beaten and tied to a pole when our correspondent visited the scene.
According to witnesses, the suspect was accosted by a security guard employed by the community following incessant cases of theft and burglary in the area.

Speaking on the incident, the owner of the workshop, Mr Abdullahi, said he had to rush to the scene after he was alerted.
“This is not the first time; the other day, they broke into a compound at midnight and made away with over N3 million seismic equipment inside car used by geologists to detect water in the ground.
“Today, he was gathering the burglaries stolen from my shop at a nearby house when he was caught. We believe he is not alone in this because of the rampancy of the development recently.
“We will not call the police because they will set him free and use the opportunity to extort,’’ he claimed.
Speaking with Daily Trust, the suspect who admitted stealing the items, pleaded for mercy, adding that he would not do it again.
“I am from Kogi State but reside in Odota area of Ilorin. I intended to sell the items for money. I am learning spray painting. I plead for mercy and promise to stop stealing.”
He was, however, handed over to his mother who collapsed when she got to the scene.
“I am a fufu seller. I don’t know he is a thief. He dropped out from secondary school and I took a loan to offset his apprenticeship fee. But he no longer takes my advice and left home to stay with friends,” she added, when she regained consciousness.
