Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralized a suspected cultist during a gun battle in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, said the command received intelligence regarding a group of suspected cultists gathering suspiciously in a bush in Ughelli. Following the report, officers stormed the location.

He explained that upon sighting the police, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel. The police returned fire, causing the suspects to flee with various bullet injuries.

Adesola noted that one of the suspects was apprehended with serious gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

He said one Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the deceased.

The commissioner added that efforts are currently underway to arrest the fleeing suspects.
