A suspected notorious cult member, who police said has been giving Lagosians sleepless nights, has been remanded in prisons for allegedly killing a man during a free for all fight.

The 46-year-old suspect, Kayode Mohammed, who was allegedly on the wanted list of Area A Police Command, Lion Building Division, after the murder on October 16, last year had gone to the police station, to report a case when he was apprehended. 

Police said he absconded after the murder of one Charles Igbenova during a free for all fight and had since declared him wanted.

Magistrate B. A Sonuga of an Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos where the suspect was arraigned ordered his remand pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the case till December 26.

The defendant is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder and breach of peace preferred against him by the police. 

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the alleged offence on October 16, 2016, at Odunfa Street, Lagos Island.  

He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by killing one Charles Igbenova. 

According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under sections 411, 223 and 168(d) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.
