A middle-aged man identified only as Osasuwa has been beheaded by gunmen suspected to be cultists in Benin, the Edo State capital.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday at 3rd junction by Ekiosa market around 8pm.
It was further gathered that the deceased, who is a father of three, was at his duty post when the hoodlums attacked him.
A witness said the suspected cultists stormed the area and started shooting sporadically to scare away people before attacking the victim.
He said Osasuwa tried to escape but a member of the gang who had already closed in on him attacked him with a rod and he fell.
He explained that other members of the gang descended on him with cutlasses and in the process dismembered his body.
The source said there had been a disagreement between members of Black Axe and Eiye confraternity as well as Maphite and Eiye confraternity groups.
When contacted, the state police commissioner, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo, asked this reporter to call back later but when he did, the calls were not answered and a text message sent to the CP was not replied either.
