The police in Ogun State have confirmed the murder of a suspected cultist in Abeokuta.

It was gathered that suspected rival cultists chased the victim towards Dopamu Street via Bode-Olude close to the Elega Housing Estate and smashed his head with a stone.

Spokesman of the command, Omolola Odutola, said someone reported at the Bode-Olude Division that he saw hoodlums numbering about eight pursuing a young man he suspected to be a cultist.

Odutola said the DPO mobilised a patrol team to the location, where they discovered the corpse of a young man on the ground in the pool of his blood.

She further said, “On careful examination, signs of violence were visible on the forehead of the deceased.

“On enquiry, bystanders who spoke to police officers narrated how the hoodlums carried a stone and smashed the victim’s head which led to his death.”

Odutola quoted the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, to have described the killing as senseless and unacceptable.

She further said the CP gave: “A standing order to the officer in charge of the anti-cultism unit to unravel the perpetrators of these unacceptable broad daylight senseless attacks and killings.”
