Suspected gunrunners arrested in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven, a multi security task force maintaining peace in Plateau and some parts of Kaduna and Bauchi states have arrested suspected gunrunners and recovered arms and ammunition in Plateau State.

Parading the suspects on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the operation, Major Samson Zhakom, said the suspects were arrested following an intelligence report. 

Major Zhakom said, “As part of continued efforts to ensure the security of lives and property within the joint operations area, 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven conducted intelligence-based operations leading to the arrest of suspected gunrunners and recovery of various calibres of arms and ammunition as well as motorcycles. 

“On November 17, 2024, security agencies, during a snap operation at Kwanan Fulani in Jos South LGA of Plateau State, arrested a notorious gunrunner, who was conveying arms and ammunition to Farin Lamba in Jos South LGA of Plateau State.

‘’During the operation, one fabricated rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), one knife and one motorcycle were recovered from the suspect. The suspect is in custody making useful confessions to aid further operations to apprehend the collaborators.

“Barely two hours later, security agencies at the same Kwanan Fulani in Jos South LGA of Plateau State, intercepted another group of four gunrunners. A search on the criminals led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 7.62 mm (special), three motorcycles and one jack knife. The arrested suspects and the recovered items are in the custody.’’
